Games with native linux installers

It's getting quite bad out there for Linux gamers. If you're not prepared to Crossover Games or Cedega, then the days of installing games on your Linux machine are drawing to a close .

I myself used to always depend on id Software and Epic to satisfy my needs with their Linux binaries for Quake/Doom/Wolfenstein and the Unreal games, but the latest offering from both these developers (UT3 and the new Wolfenstein) is sadly missing binaries for us penguins, with no sign of any coming anytime soon.

So, am I going to install Windows to continue my PC gaming days? F*ck no. Instead, I'm going to install every goddamn game out there that you can on Linux!

Many people don't know it, but as well as all the open source games for Linux out there, there are MANY games available the will install and play on your Linux box, provided you have the right files. I now present a small selection of these games (there are more if you look hard enough), with links to the Linux installer files, for your continued Linux gaming experience! You still need to purchase the game disks for all these titles. Enjoy.

Neverwinter Nights

Neverwinter Nights (NWN), produced by BioWare and published by Infogrames (now Atari), is a third-person perspective computer role-playing game that is based on third edition Dungeons & Dragons and Forgotten Realms rules. BioWare released the freely downloadable Linux Client in June 2003. It can be downloaded here.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (ET:QW) is a first-person shooter video game, and is the follow-up to Quake 4. However, it is set in the same science fiction universe as Quake II and Quake 4, with a minimal back-story serving as a prequel to Quake II. It is the second multiplayer-focused game in the Quake series (after Quake III Arena). Quake Wars features similar gameplay to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but with the addition of controllable vehicles and aircraft as well as multiple AI deployables. Medal Of Honour: Allied Assault

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (MoHAA) is a first-person shooter (FPS) computer game developed by 2015, Inc. and created by Steven Spielberg. It is the 3rd installment of the Medal of Honor series. The game, based on the Quake III Arena engine, simulates infantry combat in the European and North African Theaters during World War II. Allied Assault is the first game in the Medal of Honor series to be released for Windows, and the only one to be ported to Linux. Download the linux installer from here.
